Interventions that can improve the retention in care among patients with HIV: A review

Introduction: Despite the transformation in healthcare outcomes with availability of effective antiretroviral therapy, retention human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care remains a challenge. Patients poor have higher rates HIV-related complications and death. Materials Methods: We conducted literature search on PubMed, including articles that reported adult population United States published between 2002-2022. The keywords used included HIV, care, intervention, support services, missed appointments, barriers to text messages, mobile health, telehealth, telemedicine. Results/Discussion: found interventions implementing supportive services such as patient navigators, counseling, HIV education, providing transportation led an increase care. Technological also improved include portals, appointment reminders, clinic-based smartphone apps. Lastly, visual, verbal messages emphasize importance are easy, low-cost implement clinic. Conclusion: Overall, levels needed secure patients HIV. diversifying people (PWH) calls for additional research aims address unmet needs.
